Ralph was the son of Ralph and Abigail Mather of Harwood. He was the only son baptised at St Peter's Bolton, although there are other sons of Ralph baptised at Deane.
9 March 1735, Ralph Mather of "Hilton" married Elizabeth Bradly of Bolton by Licence at Manchester Cathederal.

There is a record at Bolton archivers pertaining to "Apprenticeship Indenture - William, son of Ralph Mather of Middle Hulton to Thomas Morris of Great Bolton, weaver, date 27 Feb 1764". This is probably this William (aged 12) and orphaned.
Ralph was a relative of William Mather.
Ralph and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on March 9th, 1735 at Manchester Cathedral.2 They had two sons and two daughters, named James, William, Abigale and Alice. There are no more children.
