William's father was Ralph (Radi) Mather and his mother was Abigail Mather.  His paternal grandparents were William (Guliolius) Mather and <unknown>. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Ralph, William, James, Thomas, Jana, Alice and Anna.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 6 in March 1718 in Bolton.  He was buried on March 2nd, 1718 at St. Mary (Deane).¹
