Henry's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Margaret Thompson.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Thornley. He had two sisters named Elizabeth and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Ann.
