Harriet was born in 1837 in Billinge.1   Harriet's father was James Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) White.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Houghton. She had three brothers named Thomas, Isaac and Isaac.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
