Gladys was born in 1904. Gladys' father was William Nathaniel Mather and her mother was Etta Terry. Her paternal grandparents were Nathan Cumley Mather Snr and Mary Emma Biscoe. She had three brothers and a sister, named Charles, Lawrence, William and Thelma. She was the oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 3 in 1907.
