Elizabeth was born in 1892 in Bolton.1  Elizabeth's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Catherine Jones.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Margaret Doud. She had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Joseph and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the four children.
