Elizabeth was born on February 21st, 1618 in Turton and her baptism took place on February 21st, 1618 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Elizabeth's father was Nicholas Mather and her mother was Susannah Thorpe.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Margaret Mather. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, James, William, Thomas and Margaret.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
