Clifford's father was William Adamson Mather and his mother was Nellie Armitage.  His paternal grandparents were Moses Mather and Ann Adamson. He had two brothers named James and Ronald.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 65 on January 30th, 1992 in Blackpool.²
