Betty's father was Martin Madther and her mother was Sarah Kirkman. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Madther and Betty Siddal. She had two brothers named North and Jessey. She was the youngest of the three children. She died at the age of 42 in 1847 in Little Lever. Her burial was on October 22nd, 1847 at St. Peter's (Bolton).³⁴

- It is probably this Betty that married John Settle. She died before 1851, so dont know place of birth by death records show her as 40 and 42 when died.
