Betty was born in 1786 in Little Hulton and her baptism took place on January 22nd, 1786 at Peel Chapel.1  Betty's father was Noah Mather and her mother was Mary Hilton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and <unknown>. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John, David, Thomas, Ann, Phoebe, Phoebe and Sophia.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
