Benjamin was born in 1752 in Manchester and his baptism took place on August 3rd, 1752 in Cross Street (Presbyterian).1  Benjamin's father was John Mather and his mother was Mary. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Richard, Joseph, Hannah, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the eight known children.
