Richard was born in 1822 in Breightmet.1  Richard's father was John Lomax and his mother was Sarah Bracewell.  His paternal grandparents were George Lomax and Catherine Crompton. He had two sisters named Mary and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the three known children.
