Martha was born in July 1887 in Farnworth and her baptism took place there on July 31st, 1887.1  Martha's father was James Lindley and her mother was Charlotte Dawson.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Dawson and Martha Millington. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, Stanley, Frances and Lillian.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
