Dorothy was born in 1921. Dorothy's father was Walter Henry August Walter Licht and her mother was Olga Augusta Matilda Witthoeft. Her paternal grandparents were Heinrich (Henry) Willhelm Licht and Catharine (Elise) Christiane Dorothee Elisabeth Niemann. She had three brothers named Alfred, Lester and Delbert. She was the oldest of the four children.
