Annie was born in 1866 in Neston.¹ Annie's father was John Lewis and her mother was Mary Davies. Her paternal grandparents were James Lewis and Bridget Nowland. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, John, Richard, William and Elizabeth. She was the second oldest of the six children.
