Roy was born in 1926. Roy's father was Bernard Frank Leat and his mother was Nellie Roberta Davies. His maternal grandparents were Edmund Thomas Davies and Esther Davies. He had a brother and a sister, named Peter and Roberta. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 80 in 2006.
