Thomas was born in 1783 in Entwistle and his baptism took place on October 18th, 1783 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Thomas' father was James Isherwood and his mother was Susan Crompton. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John, James, Ralph, Robert, Harry, Samuel, William, Margaret, Anne, Jane and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.
