Ann was born on December 31st, 1876 in Farnworth and her baptism took place there on December 29th, 1878.1 2  Ann's father was Thomas Hooton and her mother was Mary Ann Barnes.  Her maternal grandparents were James Barnes and Mary Bolton. She had four brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, James, Thomas, Thomas, Harriet, Alice, Alice, Sarah, Jane and Bertha.  She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
