Ann was born in 1815 in Westhoughton and her baptism took place on March 5th, 1815 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).1  Ann's father was Adam Hodkinson and her mother was Mary Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Jane (Jenny) Sale. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Adam, Catherine, Mary and Margaret.  She was the third oldest of the six known children.
