Hannah was born in 1844 in Bolton and her baptism took place on February 23rd, 1845 at St. Mary (Deane).1 2  Hannah's father was William Hilton and her mother was Elizabeth Mather. She had six sisters named Sarah, Mary, Esther, Elizabeth, Martha and Charlotte.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.
