Charlotte was born in May 1850 in Bolton and her baptism took place on September 2nd, 1850 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Charlotte's father was William Hilton and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary (Nancy) Stott. She had six sisters named Sarah, Mary, Esther, Elizabeth, Hannah and Martha.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
