Thomas' father was Thomas Heaton and his mother was Ellen Thornley. He had two brothers and a sister, named Meadowcroft, John and Alice.  He was the oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 12 in March 1795 in Little Lever.  He was buried on March 5th, 1795 at St. Saviour (Ringley).¹
