John was born in 1815 in Turton and his baptism took place on June 27th, 1816 at St. Anne (Turton).1  John's father was John Haslam and his mother was Mary Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Entwistle. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Charles, Thomas, Isaac, Ann and Ellen.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 5 in November 1820 in Turton.  His burial was on November 23rd, 1820 at St. Anne (Turton).2
