Clara was born in December 1866 in Church Kirk.¹

Clara's father was <unknown> and her mother was Susannah Slater. Her maternal grandparents were George Slater and Sarah (Sally) Whitehead. She had two brothers named Joseph and James. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had two half-brothers named James and Thomas. She died after November 1925.
