Peter was born in June 1850 in Bolton.1  Peter's father was Peter Hamer and his mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Cunliffe.  His maternal grandparents were James Cunliffe and Ellen (Nelly) Hill. He had a brother named James.  He was the younger of the two children.
