Josiah's father was Abraham Grimshaw and his mother was Elizabeth Sandall. His paternal grandparents were Josiah Grimshaw and Sarah Ibbitson. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Aaron, Abraham, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Mehetable, Rachel and Rebecca. He was the youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 46 on February 16th, 1791 in Rawden. His burial was on February 20th, 1791 in Rawden.¹
