Lizzie was born in 1886. Lizzie's father was Bennett Greenhalgh and her mother was Mary Philling. Her paternal grandparents were Squire Greenhalgh and Esther Isherwood. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, Jonathan, Arthur, James, Peter, Bennett, Thomas, Ann, Emily and Mary. She was the third youngest of the eleven children.
