Charles was born in March 1867 in Birkenhead.1  Charles' father was Charles Eddowes and his mother was Ann Armstrong.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Eddowes and Martha Jones. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Hannah, Emily, Elizabeth and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
