Kenneth's father was George Brooksbank Eccles and his mother was Edith Brockbank. His maternal grandparents were John Brockbank and Mary Ann Kenna. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Wilfred, Norman and Doreen. He was the second youngest of the five children.
