John's father was John Eastwood and his mother was Martha Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were Eli Eastwood and Nancy Garside. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Eli, William, Joseph, Mary, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He was the youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 33 in May 1879 in Golcar.  He was buried on June 1st, 1879 in Golcar.²
