Eli's father was John Eastwood and his mother was Martha Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were Eli Eastwood and Nancy Garside. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Joseph, John, Mary, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 26 in August 1862 in Longwood.  He was buried on August 18th, 1862 in Golcar.²
