William was born in March 1859 in Barton upon Irwell.1  William's father was John Doxey and his mother was Sarah Worthington.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Doxey and Hannah Wimston. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Henry, George, James, Richard, Frank, Hannah, Clara and Sara.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 64 on December 18th, 1923 in Chorlton-cum-Hardy.2

‌William and Phoebe were married in a religious ceremony in September 1897 in Barton upon Irwell.6  They had a son named William.
