Sarah was born in March 1859 in Huddersfield.1  Sarah's father was Joseph Crosland and her mother was Sally Mann Rushworth.  Her paternal grandparents were John Crosland and Mary Wilkinson. She had three brothers and five sisters, named George, John, Joe, Mary, Matilda, Phoebe, Sarah and Phoebe.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 2 in March 1861 in Huddersfield.1
