Ellen was born in 1767 at DeadManStone and her baptism took place on June 18th, 1767 in Almondbury.1  Ellen's father was Mr James Crosland and her mother was Ellen Batty. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Daniel, James, Joshua, Hanah and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
