Born 1734, possibly son of John Crosland of Paddock Foot, Huddersfield (near Lockwood).
27 Feb 1760 James Crosland (24) married Ellen Batty (21) by licence. There's also a marriage to Ellen Broadhurst 12 Oct 1758.
In May 1772, a month after Joshua was baptised, wife Ellen died, recorded as "Ellen Wife of James Crosland of Deadmanstone Attorney at Law Houses", aged 33.
James also had a son Joshua of DeadManStone, Clert to John Battye, so several Batty family connections.
Aug 1775, after his wife Ellen had died, James re-married Abigail Hirst at Huddersfield St Peter.
22 Jan 1784, James Crosland of DeadManStone, Attorney, paid duty for Thomas Shaw, an apprentice.
In 1799 Jame's son James Jnr was living at DeadManStone when he married Martha Batty by license.
20 Mar 1804 James Crosland of DeadmanStone, a gentleman died. He has a burial with headstone at Almondbury.
