Ann was born in 1865.  Ann's father was Jonathan Crosland and her mother was Elizabeth Winpenny.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Crosland and Jane Sykes. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Tom, Sam, Jonathan, Mary and Jane.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother named John.
