William was born on July 3rd, 1894 in Birkenhead and his baptism took place on August 20th, 1894 at St. Peter (Liverpool).1 2  William's father was John Cotton Cole and his mother was Ellen Stuart. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Susannah, Alice, Mary, Barbra, Florence and Edith.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 59 on November 4th, 1953 in Tranmere.1

‌William and Betty were married in a religious ceremony in December 1922 at the Birkenhead Baptist Church.6  They had a son named Tom.  There are no more children.
