Edith was born in 1906 in Birkenhead and her baptism took place on February 7th, 1906 at St. Anne (Birkenhead).1 2  Edith's father was John Cotton Cole and her mother was Ellen Stuart. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert, William, Thomas, Susannah, Alice, Mary, Barbra and Florence.  She was the youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 70 in 1976 in South Africa.3
