William was born in 1776 in Uppermill and his baptism took place on January 28th, 1776 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  William's father was William Buckley and his mother was Martha Bottomley. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Samuel, Mary and Betty.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
