Samuel's father was William Buckley and his mother was Martha Bottomley. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, William, William, Mary and Betty.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 4 in April 1783 in Delph.  He was cremated on April 23rd, 1783 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).¹
