John was born in June 1772 in Uppermill and his baptism took place on June 14th, 1772 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  John's father was William Buckley and his mother was Martha Bottomley. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, William, Samuel, Mary and Betty.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
