Sarah was born in 1781 in Uppermill and her baptism took place on January 14th, 1781 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  Sarah's father was James Buckley Jnr and her mother was Margaret Platt.  Her paternal grandparents were James Buckley Snr and Elisabeth (Betty) Cresswell. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Mary, Betty, Ann, Alice and Hannah.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
