Alice was born in 1784 in Uppermill and her baptism took place on August 21st, 1784 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  Alice's father was James Buckley Jnr and her mother was Margaret Platt.  Her paternal grandparents were James Buckley Snr and Elisabeth (Betty) Cresswell. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Mary, Betty, Sarah, Ann and Hannah.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
