Mary was born in 1775 in Saddleworth and her baptism took place on November 19th, 1775 at St. Chad (Saddleworth).1  Mary's father was James Buckley Jnr and her mother was Margaret Platt.  Her paternal grandparents were James Buckley Snr and Elisabeth (Betty) Cresswell. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Betty, Sarah, Ann, Alice and Hannah.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
