Thomas was born in 1830 in Wrenbury and his baptism took place on December 26th, 1830 in Audlem.1 2  Thomas' father was John Brereton and his mother was Mary Topham.  His paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Elizabeth Salmon. He had a sister named Elizabeth.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-sister named Mary.
