Mary was born in 1826 in Audlem and her baptism took place there on September 18th, 1826.1  Mary's father was John Brereton and her mother was Elizabeth Jarvis.  Her paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Elizabeth Salmon. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Thomas and Elizabeth.
