Thomas was born in November 1793 in Coppenhall and his baptism took place there on November 17th, 1793.1 2  Thomas' father was George Brereton and his mother was Mary Jackson.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton Jnr and Mary Green. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, George, James, Ann and Mary.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 57 on December 1st, 1850 in Haslington.  He was buried on December 5th, 1850 in Haslington.2
