Thomas was born in July 1809 in Daresbury and his christening took place there on July 30th, 1809.1  Thomas' father was George Brereton and his mother was Mary Smith.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Martha Jennion. He had a brother and four sisters, named George, Mary, Ann, Martha and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
