George was born in 1805 in Daresbury.1  George's father was George Brereton and his mother was Mary Smith.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Martha Jennion. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Mary, Ann, Martha and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
