Sarah was born in June 1818 in Daresbury and her baptism took place there on June 14th, 1818.1  Sarah's father was Ralph Brereton and her mother was Alice Owen.  Her paternal grandparents were William Brereton and Martha Jennion. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, William, Ralph, Martha, Ann, Mary, Esther, Elizabeth and Ellen.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
